*NEW UPDATE* (See "Which version should I play?" below for details)

The land has been plunged into darkness. No one knows why or how.

It is believed the source of the darkness comes from an ominous stronghold.

You are tasked with entering its depths to seek out some solution to the oppressing darkness that consumes the land.

Will you survive and bring the darkness to an end?

Perhaps you'll meet a helpful friend along the way...

Afterall, how can you not trust that smile? :)

This short horror game was made by a solo developer in under a month for a gamejam with the theme "Darkness and Light".

Which version should I play?

Updated Version (Just named "Borb"): *Recommended*

-Added better check point system so you don't have to restart the second area over if you die.

-Added facial animations for Borb! Now Borb is cuter (more unsettling?) than ever!

-Added some secret Easter eggs ;)

-Added more asset credits and properly cited others.

-Fixed some meshes and colliders that weren't very noticeable, but should have been updated.

Gamejam Release Version:

-This version is exactly as it was when originally submitted for the gamejam.

*One known bug: On rare occasion the player can get "stuck" when near a pillar that utilizes Borb. You can crouch to get unstuck.*

Good Job

Cool game. I wasn't a big fan of the press F as fast as you can mechanic, but I liked what you did with the Borb character and the ending.

Love borb! That ending, tho! Geeez.

This game was hecca cute, and I'd play more of it if there was an update!! Would recommend for Horror Game fans. Loved the ending btw.

Thanks! I enjoyed watching your playthrough! I actually did recently release an update with better checkpoint systems (I noticed you ran into that issue, sorry!), added easter eggs, and Borb facial animations. However, if there is ever a Borb 2 or more story I will make another update for sure!

(P.S. I also loved the meme your chat made)

I really appreciate that you took the time to respond! Glad to see that you're actively maintaining the game! It did feel a touch difficult at first, but not overtly so. Also, yes! We love Borb in my community, we've even got Borb as an emote over on our Discord server! Would love to see more from the Borb-iverse! Keep it up!!

Enjoy the new update and Happy Halloween!

I thought that I had to move the mouse all around to shake Borb... they do seem sus, though.

Oh, and now I have a suggestion: activating one of the Light Locks and returning to the main area should place a checkpoint, since it's pretty annoying to die to the monster in the other room and having to start all over again!

Thanks for playing! Haha, it seems most people try and shake the mouse at first before the shake prompt comes up :P

I also agree with your suggestion. It was actually planned to have an extra checkpoint after each initial light lock, but I was struggling to get it to work while checking if you went to the left or the right path first (code and trigger order were getting messy). At that time the final part of the game wasn't even started so I put the checkpoint issue on hold until the rest of the game was finished. However, once I got everything else finished the gamejam was almost over and I didn't have time to go back and properly implement it, so I left it with the one checkpoint at the start of the light lock room and hoped it wouldn't be too annoying since one of the paths is rather short.

I may make a post-jam version of Borb as a download option in the future with some other minor fixes/additions, and if I do then the extra checkpoint system will definitely be added :)

So difficult but so fun!

I believe in you :) Remember, the monster reappears at the last position it disappears at, so use that to strategize your shakes!

Nice mechanic shaking the light to make it come back. Kept me on edge looking out for the monster, loved the game and keep up the amazing work! Left a follow =D Your game is 3rd in the video
